The cap on a Pioneer tempo fader is the first thing to disappear – it works loose, splits at the seam, or comes off in a flight case and never turns up again. Without it you are dragging a bare metal tang with one finger, which is no way to hold a beat.

Check the slot before ordering
There are two common sizes of Pioneer tempo cap. This one takes a 4 mm wide tang in a 4 x 7 mm slot and suits the larger tempo faders on CDJ, DDJ and XDJ units. The smaller caps used on some controllers have a 1 x 4 mm slot – measure the tang on your fader before buying, because the two will not interchange.
Why four at a time
A tempo cap that has gone loose on one deck is usually the first of a set – the same age, the same use, the same UV exposure. Four caps cover both decks in a pair, or all four tempo faders on a multi-player setup, and the extra ones cost almost nothing once the parcel is already on its way.
Fitting
Pull the old cap straight up off the tang. Push the new one down until it seats – the white line should sit horizontal at the centre detent, so you can see the zero position at a glance. If it feels loose, the tang is worn rather than the cap.

Does it come with the fader itself?
No – this is the cap only. If the tempo drifts or jumps, the slide potentiometer underneath needs replacing.
